Third award for charity animation

27th November 2015

We’ve won a third award for our animation for charity, Together for Short Lives. Our Creative Director, John Lanyon and our Production Manager, Claire McGrath, picked up a Media Innovation Award last night.

This follows on from our Digital Entrepreneur Award earlier this month and an Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals Award. The film, “We’re having a baby” won the animation category.

Watch the charity film here:

We made this animation pro bono for Together for Short Lives, the leading UK charity for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. We wanted to really capture the heart of what the charity do in order to raise awareness and inspire people to get involved.

Real-life stories are featured in the film to show how this not for profit helps families giving it an authenticity and a deeper emotional resonance.  At first parents feel adrift when they hear heart-breaking news, but with help from Together for Short Lives, they feel grounded again. We turned these experiences into a moving script, and along with illustrator and animator Katy Davis brought these stories to life.

We’re so proud that our ‘We’re having a baby’ film for Together for Short Lives has won this prestigious Media Innovation Award. The film was a real labour of love. After listening to parents who had been helped by this charity, the whole Hurricane team was keen to help raise their profile.

The animation formed the centre of a wider campaign for Together for Short Lives with the hashtag #HavingaBaby. Hurricane worked with the charity on blogger outreach and online advertising to seed the film with influencers, featuring on sites such as Mumsnet.

The Media Innovation Awards celebrate the most innovative use of media and design, and promote the cream of the creative industries.
